Feature extraction using a laser measurement system

Hi all,

I have currently a project running and my task is to detect chairs and tables using only a set of points given by the laser measurement sensor.
I tried some different algorithms to detect the walls and leave only the points that are of things in the room. But still how can I make sure those points left make a chair and not something else?
