Webcam Rangefinder

Is it possible to implement a distance meter (rangefinder) using a webcam and the laser spot module? If so, can you please give me some indications on how to do that?

but basically if you angle the laser down from the top of the robot then the spot height will relate to the distance that the spot is illuminating.
