How to use Java instead of VBScript

I'd like to use java instead of VBScript. However, I'm not familiar with sockets.
Is there a step by step tutorial?
Also, I downloaded the API.zip and plugins.zip. I just don't know what I am supposed to do. Thanks.

Use the API.zip and have a look at the Java version at the test.java file which show you a very large example of how to communicate to RR using Java. It now depends on what you want to do? If you want a variable then have a look at the rr.getVariable example in that file. If you want the image use the rr.getImage routine. The test.java file is to show you how to use all the API routines and you do not need to know much about sockets except that you need to open and close them.
