I have been able to stream to http://localhost:8080/index.html and all the controls work.

I have port forwarded 8080 to my computers ip address and replaced localhost with the outside ip address which i took to be the WAN IP.

Am i right in thinking i can do it this way? what is it im just not doing right?

Try runnig an external portscan on your box go to http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/port-scanner/ and scan your WAN IP and see if your getting any reponse.

Its also possible your ISP is blocking that port number do a google search on your ISP and port 8080 and see if people are complaning its blocked

All the ports i scan turn out to be a failiure. The WAN IP address isn't responding on port 8080 or whatever other ports i tried. My WAN IP comes up the same as the port scanner brings up.

Very useful link though, think thats a keeper.

This is obviously a very tricky thing to debug without having access to your network but it sounds like that something else is still blocking the port 8080 in your network. Note that your router may be forwarding to your computer but if your computer is running a firewall it would not respond to that port. Perhaps you can connect another machine on your local network and try something besides localhost as a quick test ... that would at least ensure that your computer can receive external 8080 requests.

STeven.
