serial port and atmega16 interfacing+MATLAB

I need to send data signals from MATLAB code in my PC via serial port to Atmega16 to control the motors accordingly. I need at least 4 data input lines from serial port to the MCU but the serial port has only one line each for data transmission and reception. Can u plz help me in this.........

you can code your data and then send to uc.
for example you can put 1 prefix for line 1,2 for line 2 and...
via this method you wont need more than one serial line!
