Have you seen the hand gesture video ? http://www.roborealm.com/tutorial/Hand_Gestures/index.php it is the place you want to start with, like the video I would recommend you not start out doing all the letters just a select few and very possibly will need a white background + stable location for the gesture to be recognized. Start first with recreating the video the page has a link to the robo file so you don't have to start from scratch and then experiment to see what works and what does not

gesture to text conversion using image processing

i am interested in gesture to text conversion or sign language for deaf and dumb people as my final year project, i am currently in third year, i havn't done anything in image processing completely new to it. i want to ask is my idea difficult for me to implement as a beginner in image processing?
what are the risks involve in it? is processing of real time images can be done through image processing?
i want to finalize my project by tomorrow so plz help me...
