Ok, download the latest version 2.8.0 and try the following robofile. Instead of using the mean colors of each blob it selects the nearest colors in the provided list within blob_colorize. This should stop the flashing that you've noticed. We also added a crop module to remove the lower notes.

STeven.

Try setting the blob_colorize to mean. I think I set it to max color which would cause the flashing. Mean will be a more stable value.

Setting is based on its x value? Yes, that is possible but you'd probably just use the X value as it without worrying about setting a particular color.

STeven.

I tried all of this, and it worked great... up to the Colorization. As the note comes down, it flashes random different colors. So I ask, can I assign each one a color based upon it's x-value?

        Josh,

One of the not so well known options of the RGB_Filter is to just highlight something with color. The background of the frets is nice and gray. This just removing anything that is grey (missing hue) seems to do the job nicely. Then we can do a quick bit of morphology to round out the remaining blobs and then colorize them based on the original image. We are then left with just the fret notes ...

Question is now what? I assume you can remove the lower colors just using a quick crop module which will leave just the colored notes. At this point you could use the Blob Filter to grab the COG of these notes ... or perhaps run the Color Stats module which will give you the COG and color for each blob ... should be enough information for the next steps.

STeven.
The hardest part of this is removing the background behind the notes. I will post tomorrow, when I hook back up my PS2. I will post 1 image with each of the notes on screen and a video with all of them coming down the row. I think the best part of this project is that it's universal between systems.

        Josh,

You are correct! Thus the name of the module being Shape match.

If you want to compare the actual pixels in the image it depends on what the desired result is. The Image Matching module will look for images with similar color, the Math module can be used to subtract one image from another, the movement modules does a similar function but looks for large changes between images, etc.

Is the goal to just compare the similarity between two images? Can you perhaps post two sample images?

STeven.

I noticed while reading the documentation that shape matching does not compare the actual image, but the shape of it. First of all, what color does the background need to be? Second, can I do actual image comparison?
