Slow fps with eb500 and boebot

I'm using a linksys bluetooth to communicate with my boebot. The communication works, although the boebot can only move forward. I have the boebot track a redball, initially it does fine: the fps is great, the boebot moves. But when the ball gets out of the view of the cam, the fps slows to 3-4 fps. I noticed that this might be because the Center of Gravity stopped tracking when the ball disappeared. But even when the ball comes back, the fps never recovers unless I restart Roborealm and run the code again. What could be the problem?
