solved, I was being dumb and closed minded about only using serial port from the ax2550, but one day it just hit me, one of the main features of the ax2550 is the abillity to turn the heavy duty brushed dc motors into heavy duty servos with rc. I hooked the servo out from the controller to a 4 port USB phidgets, then in roborealm I used the phidgets servo controller and went from there, works like a charm:)!!

i know this is pretty old topic but i pulled the project back out and i was wondering anything happened?

i found pdf info that explains how to use the rs232 link to the controller from what i see it doesn't look to be that hard to use.

rs232 for ax2550 starts on page 131, some good info on 138 and 167, mainly the beginning of that section is what you should look at the rest is encoder stuff which isn't needed for this module project.

i got rr to say connected to the ax2550 but i don't know any command that the controller know to test it out

your robot is so much like mine, im not sure if im going to end up letting rr control my robot, i know it can be done with programing it the right way to interface it, but i don't know any programing langs, so maybe later down the line i will make the robot more advanced.

Now it will depend on what you want it to do. You will have to use the "send" text box to literally type in (or use a [variable]) what will be sent to the controller device. For example, if the byte 44 will move the robot forward then your send sequence would be

\\[move_cmd]

which would send a single binary byte of whatever is in the move_cmd variable. Thus to get it to move you would use the Set_variable (or VBScript) module to set move_cmd = 44

That's the basics ... worth a test try.

i finally got around to installing rr software, and i must say i love it.

i also found the info for the controllers serial port
9600 bits/s, 7-bit data, 1 start bit, 1 stop bit, even parity

i set all that info up in the serial module, but now what?

I found the following info on the FAQ page it might be helpful, i was thinking if it can be controlled via basic stamp i guess it uses widely used protocol.

also i came across other sources saying its easily done with basic stamp.

Where can I find low-cost microcomputers to control my robot with?

For simple applications, microcomputers such as Parallax's Basic Stamp, or controllers from Z-World Engineering are low-cost, easy to program solutions that will work with the AX2550. For applications requiring more processing,a large number of single board computers are available from several manufacturers. It is even possible to use a low cost PC motherboard or laptop if size or power consumption are not an issue. In short, any computing engine with a free serial port may be used with the AX2550. A Palm Pilot can be a good and low cost controller since it has a serial port that can be connected to the AX2550.

Waseem,

You'd probably end up using the serial module to communicate to the controller. We do not have access to the protocol that they use but have contacted Roboteq to investigate if we can create a new RR module that communicates directly to the AX2550. We'll let you know if anything materializes from this communication with hopefully a new RR module that will make things much easier for you.

Sometimes it is helpful if you also attempt to contact Roboteq with such a request.

RoboteQ controller and roborealm

hello roborealm world, i came upon this program a few days ago when looking for some neat robot software for my robot.

my robot is using the RoboteQ AX2550 controller VIA RS232 serial link to the fully on board Windows Xp computer.

im trying to figure out how i can use roborealm with the AX2550 controller?
